Position Description: The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for a tenuretrack, Assistant Professor position in Physical Geography, beginning August 2020. Research interests may be in any area of Physical Geography. We are most interested in applicants whose expertise complements our existing strengths in earth system science, human/environment interactions, land use/land cover change, hydrology, isotope geoscience, and planetary science. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in application of geographic information systems, including, but not limited to: remote sensing; unmanned aerial systems; spatial analysis and modeling; or any other geographic data science technique. The candidate will be expected to attract research funding from external sources. The successful candidate will teach an introductory course in Physical Geography and upper division and/or graduate classes in topics agreed upon with the Department Chair. Graduate courses that are relevant to the Department’s Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Information Science and Technology (http://science.utep.edu/GIST), which attracts students from across campus, are especially desired. In addition to advising M.S. and Ph.D. students in the Department of Geological Sciences, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the interdisciplinary Environmental Science and Engineering and Computational Science Ph.D. programs, as well as a new Data Science Ph.D. program. Salary for this Assistant Professor will be commensurate with experience.
